Abstract

Gynecological cancers are considered a worldwide health problem, in view of the high rates of morbidity and mortality. The objective of this study was to determine the mortality profile due to different gynecological cancers, which affected women in the mesoregions of Paraíba, from 1989 to 2018. This is a descriptive study, with an ecological, temporal, quantitative and spatial approach, with data extracted from the online Mortality Atlas of the National Cancer Institute and the SUS Outpatient Information System, through the TabNet tab. The profile of mortality from gynecological cancers was analyzed for each mesoregion of Paraíba, adjusted mortality rate by time intervals and age group and number of cytopathological tests performed. During the analyzed period, Mata Paraibana was responsible for the highest average deaths. The average of the adjusted death rate showed an increase in deaths from these neoplasms over the years, and the highest average of deaths from cervical cancer (6.5±2.4) was found in the Agreste of Paraiba. Regarding cytopathology, Borborema (48,356 exams) had the highest average of exams performed. There was an increasing mortality from gynecological cancers throughout Paraíba during the period studied, with heterogeneity between regions and types of cancers.
