Geração de crédito de carbono a partir de resíduos sólidos em Sergipe

Abstract

The rapid population growth and the intensification of industrialization are factors responsible for the consumption of new products and generation of solid waste which, if not disposed of correctly, can intensify environmental problems. Thus, the present work aimed to estimate the generation of carbon credits through the disposal of waste in a sanitary landfill in the state of Sergipe, considering its energy use or simple burning of biogas. For this, the methodology provided by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was used to estimate the amount of methane (CH4) generated according to the amount of waste deposited in the landfill. As a result, it was concluded that the generation of carbon credit is higher for the simple burning of biogas compared to energy use. In addition, both systems have great environmental benefits, such as the mitigation of the greenhouse effect, which is harmful to life on the planet.
