Abstract

Objective: To analyze the variation in the incidence of COVID-19 in Palmas, Tocantins, after restrictions on commercial establishments in the 1st half of 2021. Materials and methods: Ecological observational study with data on COVID-19 cases in Palmas, Tocantins, from January to June 2021, comparing the incidence rate month by month and evaluating decrees and restriction measures. Results: There was variation in incidence, with a peak in March (67% increase), followed by a decline in April (55% drop). Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between months, with March being the most affected. After the reopening of businesses, there was no significant increase in cases. Conclusion: Commercial restrictions do not appear to have significantly impacted the increase in COVID-19 cases in Palmas, Tocantins, during the 1st half of 2021. Other factors, such as clandestine events and the return of school activities, may have influenced the numbers. Additional studies are needed to evaluate these aspects.
