Pharmaceutical Interventions in the Therapeutic Management of Oncological Patients: A Systematic Review
Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Cancer represents one of the greatest health challenges worldwide, not only for clinical complexity, but also for the socioeconomic impact that causes. In this scenario, the maintenance of pharmacotherapy is essential. OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the impact of pharmaceutical interventions on drug -related problem solving (PRMs). METHOD: A survey of the systematic literature review was conducted, using the descriptors “pharmaceutical assistance”, “evidence-based pharmaceutical practice” and “neoplasms”. To this end, work has been included published in the last 5 years (2019 - 2024), in Portuguese, English and Spanish languages. After reading the titles, summaries and full text a sample of 31 articles was obtained. RESULTS/DISCUSSION: The performance of the pharmacist expanded from medicines -centered activities for an integrated role in the health team, focusing on patient care. Pharmaceutical interventions are effective in optimizing therapies, reducing side effects and improving treatment adherence, positively impacting patients' quality of life. Furthermore, the inclusion of pharmacists in palliative care is associated with lower hospitalization and greater comfort for cancer patients. CONCLUSION: Pharmacists play a crucial role in health, improving quality of life, solving drug problems and promoting treatment adherence, although there are still challenges.
