DINÂMICA TEMPORAL DO USO E COBERTURA DA TERRA NA ÁREA DE INFLUÊNCIA DA USINA HIDRELÉTRICA DE BELO MONTE, PARÁ.
Abstract
The construction of hydroelectric plants has caused significant changes in land use and land cover, especially in regions with large infrastructure projects. Therefore, the objective of this study is to highlight potential changes in land use and land cover in the Area of Direct Influence of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Plant (PA). Data from Collection 9 were used to classify land use and land cover for the years 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, and 2022, and spatial analyses were performed using QGIS software. The results showed that the construction of the plant caused a significant expansion of water bodies, while forested and agricultural areas showed a considerable reduction, reflecting the direct impact of flooding and territorial reorganization in the region. Furthermore, the growth of non-vegetated areas, associated with urbanization and population growth, has intensified habitat fragmentation and environmental degradation. The observed transformations highlight the need for public policies that promote the sustainable management of natural resources, aiming to minimize socio-environmental impacts and preserve local biodiversity.
