Abstract

This study aimed to map the coping strategies used by people living with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) in the context of medication use. A scoping review was conducted according to the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, with a protocol registered in the Open Science Framework. The search was conducted in October 2024, without time restriction, in indexed databases and grey literature, using an adaptation of the SPIDER model. In total, eleven studies were included, all with a qualitative approach. The coping strategies identified involved the re-signification of insulin therapy, the development of autonomy in self-care, social and institutional support, the use of technologies, spirituality, and well-being practices. Coping with T1DM in relation to medication use is a dynamic and continuous process, sustained by lived experience, learning, and integration of treatment into the patient's identity.
